Lately, I’ve been a little obsessed with my newest find. I watched a video about how to create a slow-stitching book for creating beautiful stitches wherever you are. I figured it might help me to slow down a bit and to relax and distract myself through my FND flare-ups and upcoming hysterectomy surgery recovery.

Here’s a picture of what I’ve made:

Then, inside, I made a little pocket for the scissors and a place for the needles to get tucked away.

I’ve filled it full of blank “pages” for all my stitching fancies and it’s so tiny it can fit in the palm of my hand.

I’m going to stuff it in my purse and stitch while I’m at church and in places where I could use a bit of grounding and distracting to keep my FND at bay. It’s so much fun and I am having a tough time putting it down.

I’ve never been really big into embroidery or slow-stitching, but I love the different textures that the collage of fabrics and lace create on the cover. You could opt to put this kind of collage on each page, too. But, I wanted to have a blank canvas inside and I’ve got plenty of room to add things like that if I feel the urge.

The cool thing is there are really no rules to how to create this. You just find scraps of things that you’d like to put on there and you sew them with creative stitches. It’s even fun to make up your own stitches and find new ones on youtube.

The process of creating this is bringing me a lot of pleasure just playing with the fabrics, laying them out in different ways, finding different parts that I want to fill in with decorative stitches, admiring the work I’m doing, and basking in the beauty of the school of slowing down.

I’d love to know what you have found to help you with FND triggers.
